Microsoft partners with 9 more manufacturers for more Windows Phones

Image may be NSFW.

One of the main reasons that Windows Phones haven't sold as much as Android smartphones is because of the lack of manufacturers. At launch, Microsoft had only a handful of manufacturers and as Windows Phone grew, the number of manufacturers shrunk and at one point, Microsoft bought out Nokia, which was probably the only company making Windows Phones.   After Satya Nadella took over, looks like Microsoft are serious about their smartphone OS - Windows Phone and at MWC 2014, they have announced that they are tying up with 9 more manufacturers to expand the reach of Windows Phone. The list of manufacturers are as follows Lenovo LG ZTE Xolo Karbonn Gionee JSR Longcheer Foxconn As you can see from the above list, Microsoft is trying to get into the mid-range smartphone segment more aggressively. Lenovo is currently one of the leading smartphone makers and a leading PC maker, a tie up with Lenovo is probably the best thing for Microsoft in the above tie ups. The list also includes three names from the Indian mid-range Android manufactures - Karbonn, Xolo and Gionee. It is surprising that Micromax has been left out, but we can surely say that we can expect more Windows Phone in 2014 thanks to the new partnerships. If you din't ...

The Elife E7 is Gionee's first real attempt at cracking the top end segment of the market, a really good one at that. We had unboxed this flagship device earlier, after it launched in the Indian market with an attractive price tag of Rs. 29,999. Being a flagship, it comes with specifications that resemble one, and that includes the massive camera module at the back, which houses a large sensor from Omnivision and an equally large lens unit from Largan, a precision manufacturer from China. So, with all that, how does the camera really perform? What is the UI like? Here is our Camera Review of the Gionee Elife E7 to answer that. Skip past the video for the full resolution samples. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTJpbx7zqMI We shot several camera samples in different conditions, to see how the camera performs in general use cases. Gionee Elife E7 Review: Best in class

Image may be NSFW.

The Elife E7 is Gionee's first flagship smartphone that is aimed at the premium high end segment of the market. The device is powered by the powerful Snapdragon 800 processor and sports a seemingly good 16 MP camera, which brings it closer to the likes of other flagships like Nexus 5 and the even the S5 to an extent, but offers a price advantage making it one of the best VFM products out there. But can a newer brand like Gionee instill confidence in the high end consumer, with its hardware and software package? Lets find out in our Gionee Elife E7 Review. Check out our unboxing, in case you are interested in finding out what the retail version packs. Design, Build and Ergonomics Design of the E7 is very similar to what we have been seeing with other Gionee devices. It's kind of the anti thesis of Nokia's popular "Fabula" design which has a flat top and bottom with curved sides, while the Elife E7 has flat sides and a curved top and bottom. We've got the black version here, which is really dark, and blends really nicely with the display. Apart from the camera unit sticking out, this is a really ...

The svelte frame, machined at a stunningly thin 5.55 mm of thickness makes the device look really appealing to see as well as touch. Sporting a 5 inch 1080p screen, the device looks like a sleek slab from the front as well as the sides. It's styled well, with a minimalistic approach to design, and evidences of it being too thin show up, especially with the camera module. At the launch of the Gionee Elife S5.5, Gionee President, William Lu and Head of Operations, Arvind Vohra, were quick to point out that the company wants to create two distinct lines of flagship level devices. While the earlier launched E series is for the camera centric, performance focussed devices. The S series is aimed at the fashion conscious and imbibes smart capabilities with stylish sensibilities. This is very evident from the outset and here we list out some of the differentiating criteria between the two devices. The Gionee Elife E7 is clearly aimed at those who want a giant screen for multimedia consumption. The Elife S5.5 on the other hand combines the same resolution with a smaller and more pocketable 5inch panel. The display on the Elife E7 is of the IPS LCD variety while the S5.5 uses a Super AMOLED display. Moving over to the back, the camera modules are very distinctly set apart. The Elife E7 is equipped with a 16MP rear facing camera and an 8MP front facing camera. The Elife S5.5 on the other hand makes do with a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera.
