Gionee has released the Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for its Elife E3 smartphone in India. Along with the Android 4.4′s features such as wireless printing, support for emojis and more, this update brings a new homescreen layout, Touchpal, Kingsoft Office and more, similar to other smartphones. It has also added nine Indian languages. Gionee released KitKat update for its M2 smartphone back in September.

The KitKat update for Gionee M2 is not available over-the-air (OTA. It available at selected service centres, and you can also follow instruction on the official Gionee forum and flash the new firmware manually. It doesn't erase your data, however Gionee asks you to backup your data before flashing.
Gionee has taken to a gadgets expo in China to launch yet another device to extend it's already diverse portfolio. This time round, the device -- the GN715 -- comes with a Snapdragon 400 SoC, like a tonne of other mid-range devices that have taken birth this year, right from the Motorola Moto G to the Xiaomi Redmi 1S.
Although the device is called GN715 for now, you can expect for it to have a more easy-to-remember name when it is made available. Speaking of availability, it isn't clear as of now if the device will make its way out of its home country. It is priced at 1699 Yuan (US$ 275 approx.)

Gionee CTRL V4S that was listed on the official website last month during the GPad G5 launch, has been officially launched. It has the same 4.5-inch FWVA display, similar to the CTRL V4 that was launched last year, but this has a faster 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and has 1GB RAM. It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat).

Gionee Marathon M3, the company's latest smartphone in the M series and the successor of Gionee M2 is now available from eBay in India. Gionee has officially launched the Marathon M3 smartphone in the Marathon series with a 5000mAh battery. It went on sale online in India few days back and packs a 5-inch HD display, powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Gionee has launched CTRL V6L and Pioneer P5L LTE smartphone and has announced P4S and P6 smartphones. The Gionee CTRL V6L has a 5-inch HD screen, powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC, comes with a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The Pioneer P5L has a 4.7-inch FWVGA screen, powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor, comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Both these run on Android 4.4 (KitKat).

Gionee has launched Elife S5.1 in India. It is the company’s thinnest smartphone that is just 5.1mm thin and has a magnesium alloy frame. It has a 4.8-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and screen-to-body ratio of 74% since it has a narrow frame of just 1.8mm. The back cover is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by a 1.7 GHz Octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor and runs on Android 4.4 with Amigo 2.0 UI on top.

Overall, the Gionee Elife S5.1 smartphone lasted for 9 hours and 39 minutes in our battery test. As you can see from the pie chart, even though the smartphone's talk time is good, other things such as browsing and video playback are not impressive.

It has introduced back in November last year when Gionee launched the CTRL V6L and Pioneer P5L LTE smartphones. The main highlight of the smartphone is the 2-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash. It has a 5-inch FWVGA display, is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash.

Gionee today sent out invites for its MWC 2015 press conference where it will announce the Gionee Elife S7. The Chinese manufacturer has long been expected to unveil the world's latest smartphone at next month's event in Barcelona but the name of the new handset suggests the company could be of the world's thinnest smartphone race.
The race to be thin began with Gionee's Elife S5.5 which has a 5.55m thin body and was then surpassed by the Elife S5.1 (with a 5.15m profile) before the Oppo R5 (4.85 mm thick), Vivo X5 Max (4.8 mm) and Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini (4.7 mm) all took the crown in succession. The invite to Gionee's MWC 2015 event (as seen above) reveals the new handset will be dubbed the Elife S7 and unless the company has made a drastic change to its naming policy, chances are the Elife S7 will have a 7mm thick body.
The suggestion that Gionee are leaving the thinnest smartphone race is further enhanced by comments made by Oliver Sha - the company's head of global marketing - who stated that:
